Where It Begins, And Continues Without End

Ensou
A circle with neither beginning nor end, drawn in a single stroke.

If eternity exists,
I believe it is something that quietly gathers within us.

Things that take form will eventually change,
and at times, they may be lost.

And that is precisely why we pray for eternity.

Entrusting it to people, to things,
it is carried forward as memories and sentiments.

Even a prayer, as it gathers over the years,
may gradually change in form,
while its essence remains.
As long as it continues to be carried forward,
I want to call that eternity.

For example, culture and history
are evidence of how the thoughts and feelings of others have been carried forward in this way.

To pass them on,
to leave them behind.

It is not an easy thing to do.

And then, there are the things that are precious to someone.

The memories of the time spent together,
and all the feelings gathered along the way.

Then, when they pass into someone else’s hands,
they begin anew.

There is no end to it.

It begins, and continues without end.
